On the high desert in Palm Springs, a crowd of fascinating leaders and thinkers from science, the media, business, the arts, government, and advocacy gathered to discuss the future of stem cells and synthetic life; drug pricing and Is Big Pharma Dead?; Darwin vs. God, the have and have-nots of life sciences, and the threat of biopathogens.

They heard Ray Kurzweil debate Baroness Susan Greenfield about the future of life in the BioAgenda Big Debate, which was broadcast on NPR’s Tech Nation, hosted by Moira Gunn, who moderated the debate. (LISTEN to the debate).

They saw a play about science and a mini-film festival; and heard talks about extraterrestrial biology from Columbia astrophysicist David Helfand, and Art, Sex and Power from Leonard Shlain. They heard BioAgenda challenges on reforming drug development and on creating a science corps to help in the developing world; and innovator talks about a newly discovered gene for diabetes and about molecules in food that may prolong life.
